Microsoft discontinues the Kinect
The Kinect is a device that inspired me as well as countless other creatives into an entirely new form of art using the human body as an input device. I had so much fun being a part of that new wave of interaction; it inspired me to start programming, to spend hundreds of hours designing new ways of manipulating sounds, and with just a $130 camera I created live music for performances around the world. I still use it to this day!
There’s a number of successors to the Kinect, but I’ll always have a special place in my heart for the “gaming peripheral” that changed my life so dramatically.
RIP, Kinect.
